Dná dní is a solo exhibition by Marcel Mališ, a Slovak painter and interdisciplinary artist of the middle generation. In the exhibition, he addresses questions of socially engaged art and the political image, which today is once again increasingly associated with radicalisation and the use of demagogic strategies in the public sphere. Through manipulated realities, he draws attention to the continuities of nationalist propaganda and the misuse of sacred imagery. He highlights the fact that, despite the democratic system of the Slovak Republic, such strategies continue to be employed in contemporary political visual communication, drawing inspiration from totalitarian systems of both the past and the present.
The exhibition builds on questions surrounding the creation of icons, as well as their destruction and the exploitation of their demagogic potential. It can be understood as the culmination of Mališ’s long-term artistic research and as a symbolic conclusion to this theme within his artistic practice.
