Photopia is an exhibition about photography as a space between the visible and the invisible, between existence and loss, between a place and its disappearance. In the works of Ema Lančaričová, photography becomes not only a document, but also a philosophical medium – a bearer of memories, traces, and layers bound by time, memory, and idealization.

The Photopia exhibition project presents the latest chapter in the long-term research of visual artist Ema Lančaričová, focusing on the medium of photography in its philosophical and visual ambivalence – as both a record and a vanishing, an image and a memory, presence and its gradual loss.

In the artist’s interpretation, photography transforms into a space of utopian thought – a non-place and non-time where the past and future pause and intertwine. The artist works with materials whose physicality and fragility underscore the themes of transience and gradual dematerialization. The exhibition explores the layering of reality and its fragmentation. Abandoned architectural motifs, repeated visual elements, and the technical specifics of the materials used become carriers of meaning – not fixed in clarity, but open to interpretation.

An ambient soundscape by musician Morgien creates a parallel perceptual space, enhancing the experience and shifting the exhibition into a sensory and contemplative dimension.
